Brewtiful Belgians

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

Good morning beer fans,

It's been a while since we last spoke, and a lot has changed.

After years of lockdowns, 2022 was a big year for the Lost Boys. We launched our New England IPA (our first non-fruit-based beer) and entered the world of beer festivals including CAMRA's staple St Albans beer festival where we ranked in the festival's top IPAs, featured on the Brewers Journal podcast as well as local media and radio.

But now, in 2023, we're announcing another big moment ... the launch of our Belgian Golden Ale.

Belgian Gold Ale Promo Shoot

This new beer will join our New England IPA to become our two flagship beers. It marks a significant moment for us as we say goodbye to fruit beer. They may return in the future as a seasonal range but we won't see them return to the starting lineup (for now anyway).

So why a Belgian Golden Ale?

After the success of our New England, we wanted to launch another staple product that would fit into our mission of something for everyone.

Belgian Gold Ale Pump Clip and Crowner

With that in mind, we wanted to create a beer that would be less hop focused and sit below 5%. While researching the market (the best part of being a brewer), including a visit to Oktoberfest, we became fascinated by Belgian IPAs, pilsners and British Golden Ales. They are defined by their malt combination rather than their hops, which we believe makes them more palatable to a novice but just as enjoyable for a beer expert.

We looked for a type of beer that would bring the best of these worlds together in one product, and we found Belgian Golden Ales. However, we didn't want to lose the things that had attracted us to this type of beer in the first place, so, our beer combines the bready, spicy finish of a Belgian with the light maltiness and hint of citrus that you would find in a British Golden Ale. We have focused on a pilsner malt to give it a traditional bready core but we've included more oats to give it a fuller finish.

The Belgian Golden Ale will be in pubs from this weekend, so be sure to ask your bartender! Stay classy, Lost Boys Brewery
